ABSTRACT. In a hypothesis test, a researcher initially fixes a type I error rate, that is, the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis given that it is true. In the case of means tests, it is important to present a type I error that is equal to the nominal pre-fixed level, such that this error remains unchanged across various scenarios, including the number of treatments, number of repetitions, and coefficient of variation. The purpose of this study is to analyse and compare the following multiple comparison tests for the control of both conditional and unconditional type I error rates, depending on a significant F-test in the analysis of variance: Tukey, Duncan, Fisher’s least significant difference, Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK), and Scheffé. As an application, we present a motivation study and develop a simulation study using the Monte Carlo method for a total of 64 scenarios. In each simulated scenario, we estimate the comparison-wise and experiment-wise error rates, conditional and unconditional on a significant result of the overall F-test of analysis of variance for each of the five multiple comparison tests evaluated. The results indicate that the application of the means tests based only on the significance of the F-test should be considered when determining the error rates, as this can change them. In addition, we find that Fisher’s test controls for the comparison-wise error rate, the Tukey and SNK tests control for the experiment-wise error rate, and the Duncan and Fisher tests control for the conditional experiment-wise error rate. Scheffé’s test does not control for any of the error rates considered.

ABSTRACT: Studies on seed science are developed for a wide range of purposes, being the statistical analysis of data essential for experimental reliability and evidence. Due to the characteristics of seed data, several statistical methods can be applied, among them the survival analysis stands out, in virtue of allocating censored data and describing phenomena over time. Therefore, this bibliometric study verified the use of survival analysis in studies with seed germination and to examine the applications of survival analysis in original articles from the Web of Science database for the period from 2000 to 2020. For the application of survival analysis, there was a low number of publications related to seed science, with the USA being the country with the highest number of publications mainly to studies in plant ecology and physiology. In general, the researches were most involved to the evaluation of factors influencing dormancy, physiological stresses, dispersion capacity, population differences and habitats of development which affected seed germination. Therefore, the qualitative overview demonstrates that the survival analysis is a statistical tool of great potential regarding the studies in the area.

RESUMO: Estudos em ciência de sementes são desenvolvidos frente a uma ampla gama de finalidades, sendo a análise estatística dos dados um componente imprescindível para confiabilidade e comprovação experimental. Devido às características dos dados de sementes, diversos métodos estatísticos podem ser aplicados na sua análise, dentre os quais destaca-se a análise de sobrevivência, em virtude de alocar dados censurados e descrever fenômenos ao longo do tempo. Sendo assim, este estudo bibliométrico teve por objetivo verificar o uso da análise de sobrevivência em estudos com germinação de sementes e examinar as aplicações da análise de sobrevivência em artigos originais da base de dados Web of Science para o período de 2000 a 2020. Observou-se para aplicação da análise de sobrevivência, baixo número de publicações com este método estatístico ao decorrer dos anos, sendo os Estados Unidos (EUA) o país de maior produtividade em publicações, com pesquisas relacionadas principalmente a estudos em ecologia vegetal e fisiologia. Em geral, as pesquisas foram mais voltadas para a avaliação de fatores que influenciam a dormência, estresses fisiológicos, capacidade de dispersão, diferenças populacionais e habitats de desenvolvimento que afetaram a germinação das sementes. Portanto, o panorama qualitativo demonstra que a análise de sobrevivência é uma ferramenta estatística de grande potencial em relação aos estudos na área.

RESUMO: O aprimoramento das características tecnológicas da fibra de algodão é uma demanda constante da indústria têxtil. Este trabalho teve como objetivo identificar o potencial de materiais melhorados com alta porcentagem de plumas para contribuir com alelos que aumentam a porcentagem de plumas com fibra extra longa (ELS) no algodão de terras altas. Dois materiais contrastantes para porcentagem de fibra (LP) e comprimento de fibra (FL) foram usados, um com fibra longa e uma baixa porcentagem de fibra (pai A) e outro com alta porcentagem de fibra e comprimento médio (pai B). As seguintes variáveis foram avaliadas: porcentagem de fibra (LP), comprimento médio da metade superior (UHML), uniformidade da fibra (FU), resistência da fibra (FS) e alongamento (EL). A análise dialélica foi realizada utilizando o Método 4 de Griffing adaptado para dialelo parcial. Os efeitos aditivos foram predominantes em relação aos efeitos não aditivos. O LP médio foi maior quando se usou o pai B. O oposto ocorreu para o UHML. Uma correlação negativa foi detectada entre LP e UHML, mostrando a dificuldade de obter ganho genético para ambas as características ao mesmo tempo.

ABSTRACT: Technological traits improvement of cotton fiber is a constant demand by textile industry. This research aimed to identify the potential of improved materials with high lint percentage to contribute with alleles that increase the lint percentage in Extra long staple fiber (ELS) upland cotton. Two contrasting materials for lint percentage (LP) and fiber length (FL) were used, one with long fiber and a low lint percentage (parent A) and another with high lint percentage and medium length (parent B). The following variables were evaluated: lint percentage (LP), upper half mean length (UHML), fiber uniformity (FU), fiber strength (FS), and elongation (EL). Diallel analysis was performed using the Griffing’s Method 4 adapted to partial diallel. Additive effects were predominant over non-additive effects. The mean LP was higher when using parent B. The opposite occurred for UHML. A negative correlation was detected between LP and UHML, showing the difficulty of obtaining genetic gain for both traits at the same time.

ABSTRACT Cotton provides about 90% of the world textile fiber, and is one of the crops of greater industrial relevance. The objectives of this study were to estimate the inbreeding depressionand the genetic effects involved in the control of the agronomic andfiber quality traits in F1 and F2 generations and to identify promising hybrids for obtaining superior cotton genotypes. Two cultivars of upland cotton and two moco (Brazilian endemic) cotton were crossed using a half-diallel scheme. The following traits were evaluated: percentage of fibers and weight of one boll, fiber length, fiber uniformity, short fiber index, fiber strength, and micronaire index. The additive genetic effects are predominant in the evaluated agronomic and fiber quality traits. Cultivar FM 966 is the most suitable parent to compose crossing blocks for the improvement of cotton agronomic and fiber quality traits. The hybrids FM 966 × CNPA 7MH and FM 966 × BRS 286 are the most promising for obtaining segregating populations aiming to select superior genotypes. Inbreeding depression is more pronounced in the agronomic traits than in the fiber quality traits.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to estimate the predicted genetic gains with the simultaneous selection of agronomic and technological traits from elite cotton lines using selection indexes. Data from the evaluation of 36 elite lines were evaluated in three trials located in Apodi-RN in 2013 and 2014 and Santa Helena, GO, Brazil in 2013, in a randomized block design with two replicates. The agronomic traits evaluated were: plant height (PH), average boll weight (ABW), percentage of fibers (PF) and seed cotton yield (YIE). In 20 bolls from each experimental unit, the following technological fiber traits were evaluated: fiber length (UHM), fiber uniformity (UNIF), short fiber index (SFI), fiber strength (FS), elongation (ELON), micronaire (MIC), reflectance (RD) and degree of yellowing (+b). Smith and Hazel, Pesek and Baker and Mulamba and Mock selection indexes were tested for selection of the seven superior genotypes, assigning the coefficients of genetic variation (CVg) as economic weight. There were no interaction between genotypes and environments for any of the evaluated traits. Smith and Hazel index resulted in negative gains for fiber length and positive for the traits whose reduction is of interest, such as plant height, micronaire and degree of yellowing. Pesek and Baker index provided positive predictive gains for all traits of interest. However, it promoted reduction only to the degree of yellowing. Mulamba and Mock presented satisfactory gains, being the most suitable for selecting genotypes aiming at simultaneous gains in yield and fiber technological components.

RESUMO. Dentre os caracteres tecnológicos que ainda precisam ser melhorados no algodoeiro, destaca-se o comprimento das fibras. Deste modo, os objetivos com este trabalho foram quantificar as inter-relações entre caracteres agronômicos e tecnológicos de fibras e identificar caracteres que possam ser utilizados para a seleção indireta de genótipos de algodoeiro com maior comprimento de fibras. Foram avaliados caracteres agronômicos e tecnológicos em 36 linhagens elite de algodoeiro cultivadas em três ambientes. Foram estimadas as correlações canônicas entre dois grupos de caracteres: agronômicos e tecnológicos. Realizou-se análise de trilha considerando o comprimento de fibras como variável dependente principal. Os genótipos apresentaram variabilidade para todos os caracteres avaliados e não houve interação genótipos x ambientes significativa para nenhum caráter. É possível melhorar os principais caracteres tecnológicos do algodoeiro a partir da seleção indireta em caracteres agronômicos. A seleção de genótipos de algodoeiro com menor porte e maior peso médio de capulhos pode ser uma estratégia para aumentar o comprimento de fibras e melhorar os demais caracteres tecnológicos. Índices de seleção contendo altura de plantas, peso de capulhos, resistência e uniformidade de fibras é uma das principais estratégias para selecionar genótipos de algodoeiro com alta produtividade de algodão em caroço e fibras longas.

ABSTRACT. Fiber length stands out among technological traits as one that still needs to be improved in cotton. Thus, the objectives of this work were to quantify the interrelations between agronomic and technological fiber traits and to identify traits that could be used for the indirect selection of cotton genotypes with longer fiber lengths. Agronomic and technological traits were evaluated in 36 elite lines of cotton that were cultivated in three environments. Canonical correlations were estimated between two groups of traits: agronomic and technological. Path analysis was performed that considered fiber length as the primary dependent variable. The genotypes presented variability in all the evaluated traits, and no significant genotype vs. environmental interaction was observed for any of them. The main technological traits of cotton crops can be improved by an indirect selection of agronomic traits. The selection of cotton genotypes with a smaller size and a higher mean boll weight can be used to increase fiber length and improve other technological traits. Selection indices containing plant height, mean boll weight, fiber strength, and fiber uniformity can be one of the main strategies for the selection of cotton genotypes with a high yield of cotton bolls and long fibers.

RESUMO O déficit hídrico em determinadas fases do ciclo de cultivo do algodoeiro pode causar severos danos, afetando as estruturas reprodutivas, acarretando perda na produtividade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta de cultivares de algodoeiro submetidas ao déficit hídrico em diferentes fases do ciclo de cultivo. Comparou-se o número de capulhos por metro, a produtividade e a eficiência no uso da água em oito cultivares de algodoeiro herbáceo, submetidas a déficit hídrico por 15 dias nos estádios: emergência, emissão do primeiro botão floral, emissão da primeira flor, emissão da primeira maçã, abertura do primeiro capulho e a testemunha irrigada com 100% da ETc. O experimento foi instalado no município de Apodi-RN, região Semiárida do Nordeste, em área irrigada por aspersão. O número de capulhos por metro, a produtividade de algodão em caroço e a eficiência de uso da água foram influenciadas pela interação cultivares x déficit hídrico. Os piores resultados foram observados para o déficit hídrico de 15 dias após a emissão da primeira maçã e da primeira flor. Quando o déficit hídrico foi imposto nas fases de crescimento inicial, após a emissão do primeiro botão floral e após a abertura do primeiro capulho, a perda de produtividade não foi significativa. Dentro de um mesmo período de déficit hídrico, as cultivares se comportaram de maneira similar. Os produtores devem levar essa informação em consideração para ouso da irrigação suplementar e para programação das irrigações, evitando que o déficit hídrico ocorra nos períodos mais críticos do ciclo de cultivo.

ABSTRACT Water deficit at certain cotton growth stages can cause severe damage to crop development, affecting physiological processes and reducing reproductive structures, with consequent yield losses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response of cotton cultivars under water deficit applied at different stages of the crop cycle. We compared the number of bolls per meter, cotton yield, and water use efficiency for eight different cotton cultivars under a water deficit of 15 days. We selected the following growth stages: Emergence (EM), First Square (FS), First Flower (FL), Peak Bloom (PB), and First Open Boll (FOB). The control treatment was irrigated with 100% ETc. The experiment was conducted in Apodi, RN State of Brazil, semiarid region, using a sprinkler irrigation system. The number of bolls per meter, cotton yield, and water use efficiency were influenced by the interaction of cultivars x deficit periods. Lowest values were observed for water suppression in the FL and PB stages. When the water deficit was imposed in the initial stages of growth (EM to FS) or after the FOB stage, the cotton yield reduction was not significant. At the same stage and water deficit, the behavior of the different cultivars was similar. Producers are urged to take this information into account when developing irrigation schemes for cotton crops, thereby avoiding water deficits during the most critical periods of the crop cycle.

Resumen Los objetivos de este estudio fueron analizar el contenido de proteína y la diversidad genética de genotipos de soya en regiones de QTL del contenido de proteína para fines de mejoramiento genético. Veintinueve genotipos fueron cultivados en el campo en cuatro ambientes (Viçosa-MG Dec/2009, Visconde do Rio Branco-MG Feb/2010, São Gotardo-MG Feb/2010, y São Gotardo-MG Oct/2011), utilizando un diseño de bloques al azar con tres repeticiones. El contenido de proteína se determinó por espectrometría del infrarrojos. La diversidad genética fue estimada por el análisis de 39 marcadores microsatélites de regiones de QTL del contenido de proteína en el grano. Los pares de genotipos con mayores distancias genéticas y niveles proteicos fueron BARC-8/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0,71) (45,18%/44,31%); BARC-8/CS3032PTA276-1-2 (D=0,71) (45,18%/43,75%); BARC-8/CS3032PTA190-5-1 (D=0,71) (45,18%/43,63%); B3PTA382-2-10/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0,62) (43,80%/44,31%); CS3032PTA276-1-2/B3PTA382-2-10 (D=0,62) (43,75%/43,80%); B3PTA382-2-10/CS3032PTA190-5-1 (D=0,62) (43,80%/43,63%); B3PTA216-1-9/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0,61) (43,48%/44,31%); y B3PTA216-1-9/CS3032PTA276-1-2 (D=0,61) (43,48%/43,75%). Abstract The aim of this research were to determine protein content and genetic divergence of soybean genotypes in QTL regions of the trait grain protein content for plant breeding purposes. Twenty-nine soybean genotypes were grown in the field in four environments (Viçosa-MG Dec/2009, Visconde do Rio Branco-MG Feb/2010, São Gotardo-MG Feb/2010, and São Gotardo-MG Oct/2011) using the randomized block design with three replicates. The grain protein content was quantified by the infrared spectrometry method. The genetic divergence was estimated by the analysis of 39 microsatellite markers from QTL regions for the soybean grain protein content. The pairs of genotypes with greater genetic distances and protein contents were as follows: BARC-8/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0.71) (45.18%/44.31%); BARC-8/CS3032PTA276-1-2 (D=0.71) (45.18%/43.75%); BARC-8/CS3032PTA190-5-1 (D=0.71) (45.18%/43.63%); B3PTA382-2-10/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0.62) (43.80%/44.31%); CS3032PTA276-1-2/B3PTA382-2-10 (D=0.62) (43.75%/43.80%); B3PTA382-2-10/CS3032PTA190-5-1 (D=0.62) (43.80%/43.63%); B3PTA216-1-9/CS3032PTA276-3-4 (D=0.61) (43.48%/44.31%); and B3PTA216-1-9/CS3032PTA276-1-2 (D=0.61) (43.48%/43.75%), respectively. Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o teor de óleo e os caracteres relacionados à qualidade e ao rendimento de fibra em linhagens de algodão (Gossypium hirsutum), para selecionar materiais com alto teor de óleo e níveis aceitáveis dos demais caracteres. Vinte e duas linhagens F6 e três testemunhas foram cultivadas em três ensaios de campo - dois em Apodi, RN, e um em Barbalha, CE. Os parâmetros genéticos e o ganho com a seleção de 20% das linhagens foram estimados de acordo com suas médias em cada ambiente e no conjunto de ambientes. Quanto ao teor de óleo, há variabilidade genética, e a seleção com base na média geral é indicada, pois esse caráter apresentou elevada herdabilidade, com ganho esperado de 4,58%. As linhagens selecionadas por este critério apresentam teores de óleo entre 23,52 e 24,51%, superiores aos da cultivar brasileira BRS Aroeira com maior teor de óleo no grão (22,04%).

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the oil content and characters related to fiber quality and yield in cotton lines (Gossypium hirsutum), in order to select genotypes with high oil content and acceptable levels of the other characters. Twenty-two F6 lines and three checks were cultivated in three field trials - two in the municipality of Apodi, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and one in the municipality of Barbalha, in the state of Ceará, both in Brazil. The genetic parameters and the genetic gain from selecting 20% of the lines were estimated according to their means in each environment and in the group of environments. Regarding oil content, there is genetic variability, and the selection based on the overall mean is indicated, since this character showed high heritability, with 4.58% expected gain. The lines selected with this criterion have oil contents between 23.52 and 24.51%, which are higher than those of the Brazilian cultivar BRS Aroeira with the highest grain oil content (22.04%).

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a divergência genética entre 49 genótipos de soja ( Glycinemax L. Merrill.), visando auxiliar programas de melhoramento voltados à qualidade do grão na escolha de progenitores. A divergência genética foi estimada por meio da distância generalizada de Mahalanobis a partir dos percentuais de proteína, óleo e ácidos graxos oleico, linoleico e linolênico após cultivo dos genótipos em diferentes ambientes. Os genótipos foram agrupados por métodos aglomerativos e as projeções bi e tridimensional da matriz de distância foram obtidas. Os teores médios de proteína e óleo nos quatro ambientes variaram de 34,25 a 45,18% e de 16,48 a 23,01%, respectivamente. Os teores médios dos ácidos graxos oleico, linoleico e linolênico variaram de 20,2 a 42,41%, de 44,17 a 63,18% e de 5,89 a 10,39%, respectivamente. As distâncias genéticas variaram de 0,11 a 251,02 e indicaram variabilidade genética entre os acessos. O par de acessos mais divergente foi PI417360/CD01RR8384, seguido por PI417360/B3PTA213-3-4 e PI417360/BARC-8. Já o par de acessos mais similar foi CS3032PTA276-1-2/CS3032PTA190-5-1, seguido por UFV18/M-SOY8914 e BRSMG Garantia/CD983321RR. Neste estudo, são indicadas como promissoras em termos de variabilidade genética as hibridações envolvendo BARC-8, CD2013PTA, CD01RR8384, CS303TNKCA, PI181544 e PI417360. Dentre esses genótipos, destacam-se BARC-8 e CD2013PTA, com teores proteicos acima de 43%, e CD01RR8384 e CS303TNKCA, com teores de óleo acima de 20%. A utilização desses genótipos geneticamente divergentes e com elevadas médias fenotípicas em futuros cruzamentos deverá produzir recombinantes desejáveis para a qualidade do grão.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper was to estimate the genetic divergence among 49 soybean ( Glycine max L. Merrill .) genotypes to assist grain quality-focused breeding programs in the choice of progenitors. The genetic divergence was estimated using the Mahalanobis generalized distance from the percentages of protein, oil, and fatty acids oleic, linoleic and linolenic after cultivation of genotypes in different environments. Genotypes were grouped by agglomerative methods and the two and three-dimensional projections of the distance matrix were obtained. The average protein and oil contents in the four environments ranged from 34.25 to 45.18% and from 16.48 to 23.01%, respectively. The average contents of the fatty acids oleic, linoleic and linolenic ranged from 20.2 to 42.41%, from 44.17 to 63.18%, and from 5.89 to 10.39%, respectively. The genetic distances ranged from 0.11 to 251.02 and indicated genetic variability among the accessions. The most divergent pair of accessions was PI417360/CD01RR8384, followed by PI417360/B3PTA213-3-4 and PI417360/BARC-8. The most similar par of accessions was CS3032PTA276-1-2/CS3032PTA190-5-1, followed by UFV18/M-SOY8914 and BRSMG Garantia/CD983321RR. In this study we indicated as promising in terms of genetic variability the hybridizations involving BARC-8, CD2013PTA, CD01RR8384, CS303TNKCA, PI181544, and PI417360. Among these genotypes we can stand out BARC-8 and CD2013PTA, with protein contents above 43%, and CD01RR8384 and CS303TNKCA, with oil contents above 20%. The use of these genetically divergent genotypes and with high phenotypic means in future crosses should produce desirable recombinants for grain quality.

Abstract The objective of this work was to map QTL for agronomic traits in a Brazilian soybean population. For this, 207 F2:3 progenies from the cross CS3035PTA276-1-5-2 x UFVS2012 were genotyped and cultivated in Viçosa-MG, using randomized block design with three replications. QTL detection was carried out by linear regression and composite interval mapping. Thirty molecular markers linked to QTL were detected by linear regression for the total of nine agronomic traits. QTL for SWP (seed weight per plant), W100S (weight of 100 seeds), NPP (number of pods per plant), and NSP (number of seeds per plant) were detected by composite interval mapping. Four QTL with additive effect are promising for marker-assisted selection (MAS). Particularly, the markers Satt155 and Satt300 could be useful in simultaneous selection for greater SWP, NPP, and NSP.

RESUMO A baixa diversidade genética traz limitação ao melhoramento de plantas, pois genótipos semelhantes compartilham alelos em comum causando pouca complementaridade e baixo vigor , devido aos baixos níveis de heterozigosidade obtidos nos cruzamentos .Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, analisar o teor de óleo e a diversidade genética de genótipos de soja com base em regiões de QTL desta característica para a escolha de progenitores visando ao aumento no teor de óleo em soja. Vinte e dois genótipos com ampla variação no teor de óleo incluindo cultivares com altos teores foram cultivados em diferentes condições brasileiras e o teor de óleo nos grãos foi quantificado por espectrometria do infravermelho. Para estimar a diversidade genética foram analisados marcadores microssatélites selecionados com base em regiões de QTL para o teor de óleo em soja. Nestes estudos observou-se ampla variação quanto ao teor de óleo nos grãos e razoável diversidade genética entre os genótipos, sendo a PI181544 a mais divergente, seguida por Suprema. Os genótipos PI371610/Suprema e Suprema/CD01RR8384 mostraram distância genética e maiores teores de óleo nos grãos. Já as cultivares Suprema e CD01RR8384 tiveram os mais altos teores de óleo e se mostraram pouco relacionadas geneticamente. Estes genótipos são progenitores promissores para a seleção de alto teor de óleo em soja.

ABSTRACT The low genetic diversity brings limitation to breeding, because genetically similar genotypes share alleles in common, causing little complementarity and low vigor due to the low levels of heterozygosity in crosses. The objective of this work was to analyze the oil content and genetic diversity of soybean genotypes (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) based on QTL regions of this trait for choice of progenitors for increase in oil content. Twenty-two genotypes with wide variation in oil content, including cultivars with high oil contents, were cultivated in different Brazilian conditions and the oil content of the grains was quantified by infrared spectrometry. Microsatellite markers selected based on QTL regions for oil content in soybean were analyzed to estimate the genetic diversity. In these studies, a wide variation in oil content (17.28-23.01%) and a reasonable diversity among the genotypes were observed, being PI181544 the most divergent genotype, followed by Suprema. The genotypes PI371610/Suprema and Suprema/CD01RR8384 showed genetic distance and higher oil contents in the grains, while the cultivars Suprema and CD01RR8384 had the highest oil contents and proved to be little genetically related. These genotypes are promising progenitors for selection of high oil content in soybean.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a relação entre os parâmetros de divergência em regiões de QTLs e a variância genética em genótipos de soja, quanto aos teores de proteína e óleo nos grãos. Dois grupos de genótipos foram avaliados, em diferentes ambientes, quanto aos teores de proteína e óleo e genotipados com marcadores moleculares de regiões de QTLs. A partir de cada grupo, estabeleceram-se subgrupos por critérios pré-definidos e avaliou-se a relação entre os parâmetros, tendo-se comparado a divergência média e a variância genética entre os subgrupos. Os subgrupos foram definidos com base nos critérios de diferença em divergência média, homogeneidade e heterogeneidade nos subgrupos e proximidade em uma projeção tridimensional da matriz de distância. As percentagens de concordância entre maiores valores de divergência média e de variância genética para o total de subgrupos de cada grupo inicial foram de 72,5 e de 73,4%, respectivamente. Portanto, nestes genótipos, há relação positiva entre as estimativas de divergência em regiões de QTL e variância genética para os teores de proteína e de óleo dos grãos. As distâncias genéticas com base nos marcadores moleculares de regiões de QTLs são eficientes para a predição da variabilidade genética em genótipos de soja para os teores de proteína e de óleo dos grãos.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between the parameters of divergence on QTL regions and the genetic variance in soybean genotypes for protein and oil contents. Two groups of genotypes were evaluated for protein and oil contents in different environments, and genotyped with molecular markers of QTL regions. Subgroups were established by predefined criteria from each group, and the relationship between the parameters was evaluated by comparing mean divergence and genetic variance between the subgroups. The subgroups were defined based on the criteria of difference of mean divergence, homogeneity and heterogeneity in the subgroups, and proximity in a three-dimensional projection of the distance matrix. Percentage agreement between the greater values for mean divergence and genetic divergence for the subgroup total of each initial group was 72.5 and 73.4%, respectively. Therefore, there is a positive relationship between the estimates on QTL regions and genetic variance for protein and oil contents in grains in these genotypes. The genetic distances based on molecular markers of QTL regions are efficient to predict the genetic variability in soybean genotypes, for protein and oil contents.

A maioria das fibras de algodão (Gossypium hirsutum) produzidas no mundo é de cor branca, apesar do línter e da fibra dos algodões tetraplóides (G. barbadense) apresentarem tonalidades de verde e de marrom. A cor da fibra é uma característica geneticamente herdada, resultante da presença de pigmentos entremeados à celulose. A herança da coloração é relativamente simples e a herdabilidade elevada, porém nos acessos silvestres, esta ainda é desconhecida. Estudou-se a herança da cor de fibra em acessos de G. barbadense que apresentam tonalidades de marrom. Acessos silvestres de G. barbadense e cultivares de G. hirsutum de fibra branca foram cruzados e obtidas as gerações F2 e de retrocruzamentos (RC1 e RC2). As cores de fibra são todas governadas por um gene, sendo a cor marrom parcialmente dominante sobre o branco, com exceção da cor acinzentada do material PI 435267 que mostra ser o branco parcialmente dominante.

Most of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) fibers produced in the world are white, in spite of the lint and fiber of tetraploid cottons (G. barbadense), exhibiting various shades of green and brown. Cotton fiber color is a genetically inherited trait resulting from the presence of pigments intermingled with cellulose. Inheritance of fiber color is relatively simple, with high heritability, but in wild accessions it is still unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the inheritance of fiber color in G. barbadense accessions representing different shades of brown. We crossed wild G. barbadense accessions and G. hirsutum cultivars (with white fiber) and obtained the F2 generations, and BC1 and BC2 backcrosses. It may be concluded that fiber color is controlled by one gene, with partial dominance of the brown color over white, except for the grayish color of the PI 435267 accession, which showed the white to be partially dominant.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar, por meio de análises biométricas, os genitores parentais de soja mais estáveis, com maior teor de óleo ou de proteína, cultivados em diferentes épocas e localidades do Estado de Minas Gerais. Quarenta e nove genótipos foram avaliados nos municípios de Viçosa, Visconde do Rio Branco e São Gotardo, em Minas Gerais, de 2009 a 2011. Os conteúdos de proteína e óleo foram analisados por espectrometria no infravermelho, com uso de analisador FT-NIR. Os efeitos de genótipo, ambiente e da interação genótipo x ambiente foram significativos. O genótipo de soja BARC-8 é o melhor genitor para o aumento no teor proteico das progênies, seguido por BR 8014887 e CS 3032PTA276-3-4. A seleção para alto teor de óleo é mais eficiente quando os cruzamentos envolvem os genótipos Suprema, CD 01RR8384 e A7002, que apresentam altos valores de média fenotípica, adaptabilidade ampla e maior estabilidade frente à variação ambiental.

The objective of this work was to identify by biometric analyses the most stable soybean parents, with higher oil or protein contents, cultivated at different seasons and locations of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Forty-nine genotypes were evaluated in the municipalities of Viçosa, Visconde do Rio Branco, and São Gotardo, in the state of Minas Gerais, from 2009 to 2011. Protein and oil contents were analyzed by infrared spectrometry using a FT-NIR analyzer. The effects of genotype, environment, and genotype x environment interaction were significant. The BARC-8 soybean genotype is the best parent to increase protein contents in the progenies, followed by BR 8014887 and CS 3032PTA276-3-4. Selection for high oil content is more efficient when the crossings involve the Suprema, CD 01RR8384, and A7002 genotypes, which show high mean phenotypic values, wide adaptability, and greater stability to environmental variation.
